Falkirk Homeless Project is a registered Scottish charity limited by guarantee, founded in 1995. It originated in proposals made by the Justice and Peace Group of St. Xavier Church, Falkirk. These proposals were developed further by Action of Churches Together in Falkirk (ACTIF). The Project began as a furniture recycling project by picking up donated household goods and furniture and delivering to people who were formerly homeless and have newly acquired a tenancy. Falkirk Churches then launched an initiative whereby each church took responsibility for collecting together ‘starter packs’ for homeless people entering into a tenancy. These packs contain cutlery, pots and pans, light bulbs and other kitchen items and cleaning materials, and are delivered by the Project along with its deliveries of furniture. In April 2001 Falkirk Homeless Project in partnership with Falkirk & District Council started a Rent Deposit Guarantee Pilot Scheme. This proved so successful that Falkirk Council signed an Operating Management Agreement with Falkirk Homeless Project to run the scheme until April 2004. We take most of our referrals from the Councils Advice Shop, Citizens Advice Bureau, Falkirk Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society and local Churches.
